Supporting the chemical sector in their transition to sustainability
The chemical sector is key when it comes to transitioning the economy as a whole towards a sustainable future. Whether looking at biobased value chains, new high-value chemicals, sustainable processes, using waste as feedstock or producing innovative new materials, chemistry underpins all technological advancements. In the circular economy, materials and products will at some point have to be converted into new feedstocks – a process in which chemistry plays a crucial role.
The chemical industry is intrinsically linked to large-scale, energy-intensive equipment, which provides unparalleled efficiency, consistency, and safety, built upon years of technological advancements. However, innovations and the shift towards sustainability must navigate and challenge this established infrastructure. By investing in advanced technologies, optimizing processes, integrating renewable energy, and adopting sustainable practices, the chemical industry can enhance its sustainability and contribute to a more sustainable future.
At PNO Innovation, we live for the innovations that make this transition possible. From smaller scale development of breakthrough technologies to large scale investments in the factories of tomorrow. This approach is bolstered by the support of local and European governments, as well as the dedicated efforts of our experts.
An idea starts small and ends up as a large factory, process or product. We can support this by combining the timeline of your project with grants and support every step of the way.
Our team consists of professionals that understand chemistry and have broad knowledge of the whole sector. We can immediately go to the core of what makes your project innovative and which grants best fit this.
Every project needs partners. PNO Innovation has a large network in the sector and connect you to partners along the value chain.
Building on our in-depth knowledge of national funding and tax incentives, our sector specialists provide a broad range of services tailored to the specific needs and opportunities within the Chemical industry:

AlSiCal is pioneering a cleaner future for the mineral industry with the Aranda-Mastin technology, which enables the eco-friendly co-production of alumina, silica, and calcium carbonate—three vital raw materials—from abundant anorthosite. This innovative process produces zero CO₂ emissions and zero bauxite residue, offering a sustainable, efficient alternative to today’s polluting methods.
SYSCHEMIQ aims to create a circular plastics district in the Trilateral Euregio (NL, BE, DE) by bringing stakeholders together and demonstrating innovative recycling solutions. With significant investments, new governance models, and pilot recycling plants, it aims to achieve 50% recycling of mixed plastic waste, significant CO₂ savings, and the creation of a platform for replication and upscaling across the EU.
LIFE4Fgases is an EU-funded project that aims to reduce the climate impact of refrigerant gases by recovering and reusing fluorinated gases (F-gases) from commercial mixtures. This is achieved in part by HAMSYS, an innovative hybrid system that combines membrane and adsorption technologies to separate valuable gases. The project also aims to contribute to minimizing emissions and demonstrating scalable solutions for sustainable waste management.
