Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)

Making Europe an attractive location for the world’s best researchers

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) enable researchers to move across borders and connect with different sectors and disciplines. They also support the development of excellent training programs for doctoral students and postdocs as well as cooperative research projects worldwide.

Some of the main principles applying to the MSCA are the following:

  • excellence: this applies not only to the individual fellows supported and knowledge transferred, but also to the R&I methodologies, the research, the training, the supervision, and career guidance
  • mobility: researchers receiving funding are required to relocate to different countries to gain new knowledge, skills, and competencies while advancing their research careers.
  • bottom-up and open to the world: the MSCA welcomes research and innovation across all fields, allowing applicants to freely select their focus in a completely bottom-up approach. The program also emphasizes a strong international dimension, fostering global collaboration.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions consist of five types of actions:

For the implementation of doctoral programs through partnerships of organizations from different sectors across Europe and beyond in order to train highly qualified doctoral students, stimulate their creativity, improve their innovative capacity, and increase their employability in the long term.

To support the career of researchers and to promote excellence in research. It is aimed at researchers with a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers.

Funds short-term international and cross-sectoral exchanges of staff involved in research and innovation activities of participating organizations (such as SMEs).

Funding for regional, national, and international training and career development programs through co-funding mechanisms.

The aim of this action is to bring research and researchers closer to the general public, with a particular focus on families, pupils, and students. This is done by organizing the European Researchers’ Night, an event to communicate and promote research, which takes place in all EU member states and countries associated with Horizon Europe.
