Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU)

Leading the way towards climate-neutral aviation through cutting-edge innovation

The Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU) is the European Union’s leading research and innovation initiative aimed at transforming aviation towards a sustainable and climate-neutral future. This program builds on the successes of its predecessor Clean Sky Joint Undertaking.

Objective of the funding
The CAJU focuses on driving the development and deployment of innovative technologies that will reduce carbon emissions in aviation. This includes advancements in aircraft design, propulsion systems, and sustainable fuels, all aimed at making air travel more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Clean Aviation Program key thrusts
The Clean Aviation Program is structured around three key thrusts, each targeting specific areas of research, innovation, and demonstration to drive energy efficiency and emissions reduction in future aircraft:

  • Hybrid Electric Regional Aircraft: projects focusing on developing and integrating hybrid electric power architectures and maturing related technologies.
  • Ultra-Efficient Short and Short-Medium Range Aircraft: innovations in aircraft architectures, propulsion systems, and fuel efficiency.
  • Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft: developing technologies to enable the use of hydrogen as a zero-carbon fuel in aviation.
